Technology Recycling for Excellence in Education

In the “old days,” when computers were really big and really expensive, users accessed them through “dumb terminals.” These were workstations with a basic keyboard and screen, maybe a mouse. The real computer was in another room somewhere.

Thin-client computing builds on the old dumb terminal concept, except these terminals are smart, since they are computers themselves. However, since the operating system, application software, and file storage are on a central server, thin-client terminals don’t need crash-prone hard drives with their noise. Depending on configuration, many thin-client terminals can also do away with other heat generating components and their associated noisy fans. Imagine a quiet, cool, room full of computers!
